Cadaqués

Cadaqués is a small seaside village at the tip of Costa Brava. We decided to visit it as it is famous for being the perfect Catalan village. We couldn´t find a place to stay in there so we stayed at a small town called Roses.

On Sunday morning we walked down to the port. We wanted to go to Cadaqués by boat, then walk back to Roses. While waiting for the boat we saw that a race was just about to start. There were at least 50 of them running, only about 4 or 5 of them women.

The boat ride was lovely, even the sun poked out of the clouds for a bit. We travelled along the Costa Brava, or wild or ragged coast as it’s called and the name wasn´t given accidentally. Look at some of my photos. On the first one you can see people on top of the cliff, they are the runners.

Cadaqués looked perfect even from the boat. These are the first glimpses of the village.

As soon as we got off the boat we started our exploration straight away. I loved the lovely white washed houses, the blue windows and the red roofs. This is a very nice place with lot of things to do like hiking, swimming, diving, horse riding etc. It´s a perfect holiday place with lots of seaside cafes and great restaurants.

We decided to go and visit Salvador Dalí’s house in Port Lligat. It is a tiny little place about 10 minutes walk away from Cadaqués. We found this quaint little church on the way with its rather orthodox cross.

This is Port Lligat and what we could see of Dalí’s house. We didn’t have to look for it too hard, the eggs were a giveaway. Unfortunately we couldn’t go in as you have to reserve the tickets waaaay in advance. It’s well worth a visit though as apparently he bought a house here, and slowly bought up all the surrounding ones as well until he ended up with 7 houses. He designed them all. You can have a look inside here.

We slowly walked back to Cadaqués and by the time we got back the sun was out as well. We found a café that looked over to the sea and had a coffee watching the runners starting to arrive to the finish line, just over 2 hours later!!

After the coffee we were ready to start on the Camino de Ronda. We said goodbye to Cadaqués and took our last photos of it.
